Another map, by Wayfaring

Wayfaring is a new site that allows anyone to make custom maps and stick pins in them for whatever purpose they want. Of course, my first instinct was to make an animation map. I started it by putting on all the studios whose locations I was sure about. I know there are many more, so if you know where you work, add it to the map. Anyone can add to it, but I think you need to register. Even before I’ve finished writing this post, two people have added ~~Mainframe Entertainment and~~ (now it’s gone) Aardman Animation to the map. Woohoo!

If you add a location, try to remember to at least add a tag for ‘animation’ – and ‘studios’ if it applies.

Very cool idea. Only problem is I submitted a waypoint, and saved it all etc… only to find it had then been deleted. Strange…. but true.

Yes, there seem to be some bugs to work out. I think anyone can edit any waypoint, which could be a problem. Also, I’ve noticed that the pages don’t always refresh on their own, so give that a try.

Hi Clay, it’s great to see you building this online Animation community. I’ve tried adding the studio i’ve been working for, A Productions, to a map but am unsure if it’s worked. Oh well, all good fun! Cheers from the UK.

Hi, i went to the map and it looked great but i couldn’t find the address. I keep a personal database of studios in my computer. And i couldn’t get any address from that map. If you could tell me how that would be great.

Art- as far as addresses, they have to be entered in to the waypoints on the map. I think anyone can edit them. I just found the buildings and put the points there. I guess the addresses can be found on the studios’ individual websites. If I really have a lot of time on my hands, I may add in the ones I can find, but now’s not the time. 🙂

Jason- Thanks for the addition. It’s there, so refresh if you don’t see it.
I’ve never been to the gravesite, but maybe someday. If you search online, you can get more details of its whereabouts.

David- It was a blast. That’s the first time I’ve ever done a presentation that big (except for the podcast). Yes, it wasn’t until I got a cool haircut that my career really took off!

Jeremy- Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the drawing. Not bad from a low-res video chat. The funny thing is, my ears are as big as the headphones I was wearing, so it looks like me more than you know. If anyone wants to know what we’re talking about, check out the Jeremy’s blog by clicking on his name.
